  • The Sunday Morning Mistress

Took a walk on Athens downtown this Sunday. Lots of people and tourists out in the cafes and restaurants. The weather was perfect (sunny around 22-25C) and caught this mistress attracting much public attention and money in order to make her moves.

The amazing part of the story was this:
While other people dropping money in her little basket to see her moving, she saw me taking pictures of her and in every one of her moves she was facing my camera lens. We both enjoyed very much and I think I should do her a favor to post some of her poses.

    Regards

They are fascinating these actors - we get a lot of them in London - I think they must be very skilled to stay so completely stock still in public for such a long time - and then the slightest little movement seems like such an enourmous thing - in fact really just as if a statue was coming to life - well portrayed in your series of shots
      nice one

And yet its a pity that there is so much shadow under the brim of that hat. A little fill in flash may have helped don't you think ?

          Hi Stephen,

Indeed it looks like that, but this collage is in small size posted and shadowed details are not so visible in that size. The full size photos look as they should. Also through the gilr's hat particles of sun going through hitting her shadowed part of face that wouldn't be visible if I had used flash. There was no need for flash, it was a bright sunny day with intense lighting.

I don't know if I can attach a full size photo here so you can see what I mean. Let me see if I can attach a full size photo inside the thread and I will post one.

          Regards

OK George, what I see is that you do have harsh contrasty lighting, the sun is pretty high in the sky and the hat is effectively doing ints job in providing shade for the user. However some weak fill in flash should just allow some detail in those shadows without overexposing or destroying the feeling of the photo.

In Photoshop, the Shadow/Highlight tool will help you do a similar thing and with some subtle use you can see some detail and the girls eyes.

                Hi Stephen,

The attached post processed thumbnail/picture looks to me like it has lost a little its magic or like it is a little washed out in terms of the necessary contrast that the original had in order to pass the feeling of mystery of the shadowed part of face and the secretely eye looking style (my English are not the best, so forgive any of my syntax mistakes).

I guess we have a slight different approach of the "high/low" contrast technique but that is the interesting part of photography

Is this the same lady who is featured in the Mike Maloney pages in this weeks Amateur Photographer?

I don't know if this is the picture you are talking about. Please paste the link here if you know it. I'm interesting to see that lady.
I took a series of pictures of this lady this Sunday morning here in downtown Athens and haven't post it anywhere else except here on DPNow.

Ah! The photo in AP was taken in London, now I look again they're not the same person.

Can't link I'm afraid as the picture is only in the printed magazine.

                        i love it George!

I have to say that the presentation is great as well.

As for brining out the shadows, I like what Stephen has done, and feel that it makes it more personal to be able to see the ladys eyes.

                        Cheers,
                        Ben
