  • What are they waiting for?

Not a real competition but let's see if any one can guess. I'll post the answer later. There's one small clue in the picture.

I was down in Canterbury last weekend on a weekend away with the 'er indoors as it was our anniversary. On the Sunday morning we decided to leave our hotel room reasonably early and visit some old haunts (I used to live in the area).

I spotted this old couple and thought to myself "why are the waiting outside a closed funeral parlour early on a cold Sunday morning?" - they even had shooting sticks so were obviously expecting to be there a while.

The answer dawned on me fairly soon after that.

Stuart, I'm afraid you'll have to give us (or me at least!) more of a clue!

Must be the Remembrance Sunday Parade Stuart, or the coach to take them to one

As they are waiting outside a funeral parlour, I think they have been coerced into going to church.

It looks as though she is wearing a poppy for Remembrance day & they're looking out for transport down the road to take them to a gathering! Need a bit more of a clue perhaps!

Outside a funeral parlour? Maybe they are waiting their turn to get in...just kidding

Two old people early on a Sunday morning mostly they go to church or in some parade.
Funeral parlours are mostly on bigger streets or avenues. So from there taxis and buses are passing. For taxi they wouldn't wait because they could call it to pick them up from home.
I think they are waiting for a bus to go somewhere to attend something or for some friends or for a parade (any kind of celebration) to pass in front of them.

I'l go with the parade , the 2 shooting sticks suggest a wait and if they were waiting for a lift they'd be looking the other way , so i'd say they were watching a parade coming towards them .
I was in Margate last Sunday at 11.00 and i'm ashamed to say i forgot about remembrance day untill i heard the parade along the seafront .(bought a poppy on Saturday though).

It was the poppy that was the clue (and the date I guess), so most of you guessed correctly.

Here's a shot of some of the veterans in the parade - reckon the front row were all officers!

Quite an emotional thing to watch and I guess some of these guys won't have many more parade years in them.

                  Good clear picture, Stuart.

I heard that for the first time ever there were no veterans from WWI at the Cenotaph memorial event this year.

It had to come sooner or later I guess. My dad passed away a couple of months back at 83 and he was too young to join up for the start of WWII so most of the WWII veterans will be in their late 80's or older.

Lovely clear shot showing lots of detail.
I note 3 bowler hat wearer out in front...is this connected with seniority I wonder. They do seem to be wearing lots of medals.

How many people noticed the medal on the tie of the bowler hatted man second from the right. Does anyone know what the medal might be.?

Its not really clear enough to see is it Dennis, but if we assume its not a military medal, it could easily be an OBE, MBE that sort of thing

Wonderful shot Stuart, I like the way some of the gentlemen at the fron are carrying the brollies as if they were guns.
You are right about it being an emotional shot. But its good to see that people still do remember our war heros.
