Melbourne's Southern Star Observation wheel opened at Waterfront City on 20th December! The largest in the Southern Hemisphere & 3rd largest in the world! It's design was based on Australia's Federation 7 point star. 390 feet high or approx 38 storeys! 21 airconditioned glass cabins that are each 19 ft long! The London Eye is 440 ft high! Don't know how high the Singapore flyer is!

      Hi

London eye when originally built was the worlds largest Ferris wheel at 135 meters (442ft), but was superseded by Star of Nanchang at 160 meters in 2006 and then the Singapore Flyer 165 meters in February this Year.
I looks as if these were aiming to outdo London's record.
The Flyer would appear to have an uncertain future as its experiencing financial problems.
      Info from Wikipedia.

Thanks for your info Patrick & Julia! With the Southern Star, they are advertising it for special events, bookings for weddings etc! I guess they have to recoup the $millions somehow! The rides aren't cheap neither at $29 a pop! I will have to try & get some night time shots of it when I get the opportunity Julia, that may do it more justice!
