  • First Sun

Was out on a Sunday morning short walk today. Thee was a heavy frost and this was particularly evident on the piles of windblown oak leaves. I then spotted that the sun was just beginning to break through and thaw the frost. It lit up some of the oak leaves as though they were on fire.

For some reason there doesn't seem to be any exif data on this shot, but it was taken using my Canon G9

Beautiful shot Stephen. I feel that the touches of sunlit oak leaves bring the the picture to life and complement admirably the the frost covered grass and leaves around them. Without these highlights the scene would have been uninteresting. Well spotted.

Many thanks for your thoughts Dennis. I had already taken 2 shots of the frost covered leaves before I spotted the sun on some of them. As you say they are uninteresting by comparison.

Thanks also to Mike and Jojo for commenting, glad you like the shot

Beautiful colours - that touch of sunlight lifts it right out of the ordinary.

Thanks for commenting Caz & Pops, glad you like it. I think it emphasises that even the simplest things are enhanced with a bit of sunlight

                  Re: First Sun

I looked at it this morning and had some thoughts, I have come back to night after looking at Mike's Winter Woods and still have the same thoughts.

It is a truly stunning frosty photograph, but I just wish the blade of grass and the vertical twig, at the top right had been removed, or darkened as, for some reason (and normally I am not one who says "My eyes are drawn etc. etc.," but this time they do wander away from the central focus of the picture.

Of course, the question arises, should we or should we not do a bit of gardening before we take a pic.?

I now realise that they are more obvious, because they do not have the white frost on them.

Anyway, the light is superb and it is a beautiful wintry scene which is nice to see, as we do not have too many of these, these days.

Sorry about the above, I now remember why I didn't do it this morning - because it isn't in "Critique Section."
