  • Photographing the birth of a baby

    Hi all,

Yesterday I had the honour of being present at the birth of my sister's 7th child. It was a car ride at 0200 houes of Tuesday morning to the labour ward of our local hospital.

I won't go into more detail now as I'm very tired and very busy. It was a very emotional and fast moving experience but needless to say, mother and baby boy doing very well at home.

Many congratulations Gina on a wonderful set of photographs. You must be very pleased with yourself.

It can't be very easy to be concentrating on getting a good image whilst being emotionally involved with your sister. I think that you have done an incredibly good job.

You certainly have a good eye for people and portraits.

Re: Photographing the birth of a baby

I may have mentioned this anecdote before... my older daughter was born in 1996 and I photographed the birth with my trusty old Olympus Mju film compact.

In 1998 our second daughter was born and I used a one megapixel Agfa digital camera... so Elizabeth is my analogue baby and Lara is my digital baby

A few months after Elizabeth was born I also upgraded our old analogue camcorder to a digital one and the difference in the vibrancy and sharpness was just phenomenal!
