  • Art Nude

Following on from Graham's post last week here are a couple of images taken on the Art Nude course I did over the weekend. I have to say that it was a privilege to work with such a professional model who did her utmost to put us "novice 'togs" at ease. It was a great experience and I hope to be able to do more in this field (both male and female) and also to employ the same techniques for mum's-to-be. I hope that the images don't offend anyone - I'm sure Ian will take me to task if they do!

Beautiful, tasteful and subtle Jo. You obviously enjoyed your course.

I have never done nude photography, but have drawn female and male nudes several times in the art class I attend.

After the first time, and when you are only given 10 minutes in each pose, you have to get your skates on to get something down on paper, therefore, your embarrassment? evaporates.

Some peoples nude photography is beautiful, but sometimes it gets on to the wrong site.

    Well done.

I like the first one best. I think it is because of the position of the model. However, they are both good.

Thanks Audrey, I was just in the process of adding a footnote to say I do have a "model release" for the images but I'll add it here!

        Re: Art Nude

Just left some comments in your gallery jojo. Essentially, I like the shots and agree with Audreys comments. Wondered what sort of lighting you used, was it natural or artificial? Though I like both shots, I may have lost the arm in the second one, and wondered about the body jewellery.

          Re: Art Nude

Thanks for your comments Stephen. It was a studio lighting set up using between one and four heads (we did low key, high key, silhouette). Not wanting to blame my equipment but I only have either a 17-50mm or 70-200mm, the first was not quite long enough, the latter slightly to long on my cropped body 30D (now is that a good enough excuse to buy a 24-70mm (L, of course) and full frame or what ). I was the only one brave enough to ask her to take off her shoes - the body jewellery would have been too personal!

            Ho jojo -

At last a post which held my attention for some time.

I think you have done extremely well. The colour tones seem spot on and obviously you had a very good model.

Number one is my choice too.

I'm not sure if I would have liked to have been there.

            Regards. Barr1e

              Re: Art Nude

Barr1e, if you get the excuse to do one of these courses, then grasp the nettle/thistle/coffee/whatever and tell Ann1e, "jojo said it's a marvelous learning opportunity - honest" No seriously, it really was a great opportunity to "cut your teeth" with a professional model without any cringe-making uncomfortableness. Thanks for your comments too.

                Re: Art Nude

The top one is very nice - the smooth tonality blends well with the dark background.

I'm not so sure about the second. It actually made me think it was a shot of the model as she was moving into position for the next shot

I think these are perfectly tasteful. Well done!

The 24-70 is a great lens, and the one thats on my camera the most. The f2.8 is pin sharp and the bokeh is sublime. I have thought about the 24-105 with IS but its f.4 and I think I'd miss that 2.8 aperture

Cheers Dave, Caz and roentare glad you like them. (Dave, you for one cannot be lacking "bottle"!, however if you get the chance, book yourself on to a respected "art nude" course - it's well worth the money and it will definitely spare any future blushes )
