Not seen many of these little fella's this year, and what I have seen are very small compared to usual.
Took this last week, the nice weather must have woke them all up!

Good clear shot of the buzzy-bee Ash, the detail on him is excellent. May I ask which lens you were using? Partly because I went out and bought a new (well to me) macro lens this week, though haven't yet had time to play......

It was a nikon 60mm micro lens.
A good macro lens will give you hours of fun, especially when its rubbish weather as you dont have to leave the house to take some great images. Use a tripod where possible.

Ah....... still haven't bought a tripod....... have asked advice (and have taken note) on here but blew the cash on the macro lens instead
Did have a tripod of sorts (for use at home only - too heavy to lug around) but that's gone with the ex-boyfriend...

So looks like that's the next purchase........

Hi Paul, yes that would be fine, as long as its a dedicated macro lens you should get excellent results. The good thing about bee's is that they dont seem to be bothered how close you get to them, some of the time I was literally inches away, you need a fast shutter as they dont hang around for long!

It does'nt have to be an expensive one, jessops do some fairly solid tripods for about 20 or 30 quid! which are quite adequate for indoor use.
Its just that with macro, you will find yourself wanting more depth of field (big f number) than the lens can provide wide open(possibly f2., hence slower shutter, hence tripod to avoid camera shake.
Also a good tip is that if your tripod is on floorboards dont walk around while your doing a long exposure, slight movement will bugger it up

You dont need a tripod for bee shots, you hav'nt time, so get yourself out while its still nice and bring us something back to look at

Hi. I have one that will do you. It was from Jessops a while ago but not their own brand. It is solid and the head bit can come off that you attach to a camera. It can be used for video too and it has a spirit level in it. It is quite small folded up and really light.

I can wrap it up and send it to you if you want it, you just pay for the postage.

That's very kind of you Paul, and thank you you very much for the offer. For the time being I still have the use of a monopod for outside (until himself realises it's still in the back of my car...) - but I think I know what my kids can club together and get me for Christmas.

Hopefully by Wednesday week I'll know whether I'm one of the ones being made redundant
