  • Out In The Field

Anne and I were out this afternoon mapping out various runs left by the deer. We are hopeful soon of a few early mornings to capture fights between the stags trying to increase the sizes of their harems. The herds local to us are rather wary of humans and the dogs they walk through the forests, so getting that shot will be an achievement.

I was using the Olympus 70-300 lens (140-600) on the E-510 today - Anne's turn tomorrow with the lens.

One of many stags in the group we photographed today. With the rutting season about to start the strongest will grab their share.

Younger one with horns and without his set of golf clubs!

I would have been more pleased to have taken some in their natural habitat but as it was late in the day I had to take them in the open and enhanced a little with pp.

Nice shots there, I like the second.
Ibet its nice having the 600 milli equivelant at your disposal, vital for these shots I imagine.

      Ash.

      Thanks Ash -

The 70 -300 lens is quite superb and of course being 4.3rds you double the FL. Coupled with a 1.4 converter which Anne and I have only just started using in anger it should cover our needs out in the field. The converter is useful for the kit lenses too - those being 14-42 (28-82) and 40-150 (80-300).
