  • Yes sorry its another sunset

Well not sure if anybody has every been chucked off a website for posting to many of the same style photos but if not I may be the first. Tonight I found the spot I wanted but the tide was coming up to early. I should be able to have the same spot but with a lower sun by the end of the week.

It was worth waiting for though.... beautiful colours, love the water. Difficult to choose between the two, but think the first one just does it for me - the catchlights in the water and the sun reflecting off the wet rocks down the left.

        Thanks Caz

Like I said in the first post I am hoping to catch the sun a bit lower in the sky by the end of the week. I also really like the first one as in the full size copy the shine on the pebbles really shows up nicely.

                    Hi Wilt and Autumn

Wilt I have done a bit of work on these but most of the work is done in camera ie low shutter speed and added filters. Did not know you had not seen these Autumn. I posted a few different ones a few weeks back but just have not had the time to get out and do any more new ones.

I sense you frown upon enhancing photos in the software Wilt. Is this the case? If so I'd be interested to know your reasoning. Do you think a photo straight out of the camera is better than one that has post processing done on it?

Re: Yes sorry its another sunset

I think I need to jump in here. this could open up a hole can of worms. I think I may end up having a word or two to say at camera club about this. Most camera I believe if you shoot in one of the auto modes like portrait or landscape will have different setting to how I shoot a photo in raw as my raw file will be unprocessed. Has I have said we have a class which is X to which it must be how the camera saw the photo. So how much can I do to the raw file before it would be called cheating compared to some one using the Peg files that would have already be processed in camera ?? I can see this one may get heated at camera club but I will not give up easily

Peter the way I read the "class x" as you call it is no cropping and no cloning of the subject you have taken. I dont do much raw but what I have played with you have to do some post processing regardless, white balance comes to mind and can dramatically change a picture, so if you look for purity in your camera based (jpeg?)picture you bracket WB and see whats best. How far do you want to go? are you allowed a filter to change colour? or allow slow shutter like the picture at the start of this thread?. I think the onus is on the heavy processing but I will gladly watch you in action at the club, better bring a towel (it might turn nasty)

Bring a BIG towel sorry I meant to say 6x4 not sure how that happen. yes I agree about the no cropping and cloning but I do not see how it matters what I do with the raw file as long as it is basic changes and is only done with the raw converter. I would not do hdr or stack different files of any sort but and this is the but I think will stir thinks up is what about the old days with film. I know nothing about film and may be well off track but didn't they do loads of different things with the way they went about developing the film. Also so what if I want to use filters of any sort. Surly if I stick any filters on the lens then the camera only sees the effect that has made and as not added effect any after it has been taken?? Oh and as the photo at the staet of this thread only used a few filters and slow shutter speed I may well use it as a 6x4. Why not ?. Anybody reading reading this what do you think. What did you do in the old days of film. How did you make changes to your photos back then??. Oh and this is not a dig at film so please do not use it as one.
