  • New Treatment

You have seen this pic before, but I have desaturated and blurred the background and printed it on A3 with a black mount for our first club competition of the season.

What do you think of the treatment?

    Re: New Treatment

You have done a nice job Audrey. However I can see the judges pulling you up on the blurring. You have blurred all except the woman, which makes it obvious what has gone on. IMO you should have selectively blurred the background by selecting an area slightly behind her, feathering that selection then giving it a slight blur. The judges would have had a hard job to tell it was not all done in the camera

Probably a better way when I think, would be to select the woman and copy to the clipboard. Then apply your blurring as suggested above, but fether into the woman a little. Finally paste the woman back in. This will avoid any halo effect caused when you feather the selection.

        Re: New Treatment

        Thanks Stephen.

I will try that out another time. I was generally pleased with the effect, but knew there was a lot of guess work on my part.

I haven't ever done much of this type of thing, but I thought it might suit the subject. After all it was only a snap with the ultra compact Panny.

An absolutely cracking original shot Audrey and a nice treatment. Just goes to show that you don't have to use the latest all-singing, all-dancing SLR to get great shots .

Although I know this isn't the critique forum I hope you don't mind me saying that I'm with Stephen on the blurring, and perhaps the colour saturation could be upped a tad but that's being picky ?

I think you have made a cracking shot even more cracking, when I first saw this shot, I did not think you could get it more perfect.
Well you proved you can, the treatment has made it more dramatic.

Excellent, I like shots of old people and you have really made her stand out well with the processing, your signage would have been better in the border in white
