  • When will we learn?

Anne and I covered some twelve miles on foot alongside a section of the Grand Union Canal today. We had mixed weather which was a blessing as this helped to keep us fairly cool. It was pleasing to be away from the noise and the pollution of traffic. It seemed each time a photographic opportunity occurred, the clouds decided to hide the sun. We stopped off at a canalside cafe and refreshed ourselves with tea and scones to spur us on to our final leg. We talked with anglers along the way and most seemed pleased with their day's catches. Within two miles of the railway station we were upset by the scene below - as the title says, when will we learn?

sad to say we won't till its too late. (if it i not already).

For me (My humble opinion coming up) its starts with parents and teaching our children to respect each other and their surroundings. From there they teach their kids an on and on. It will be slow progress but has to start somewhere.

But I don't belive it has started, or am I being pessimistic!

    Best regards

      I couldnt agree more!

I honestly believe that people caught littering, not clearing up dog muck, etc should be made to clear it up as a kind of community service scheme.

It annoys the hell out of me. We have a small pond near us, and it is for ever being cleaned, only for little (expletive) to come along and throw bottles, cans, trolleys etc straight back in!

If I were to catch someone doing it, I would throw them in and get them to drag whatever it was back out with them.......

(can you tell you hit on a sensitive subject there?)

Just to balance things, we also have another wildlife area a few miles down the road in Wokingham called Dinton Pastures, which I LOVE visiting, it is always immaculate, and full of wildlife, so I guess we shouldnt be too pesimistic.

Look what happens when those two police officers tried to enforce the law over litter, they where attacked by 30 people.

I think you are spot on to be Pessimistic.

          Sore point for me too.

The level of filth on our pathways and countryside is way beyong me.

I would love to tackle some of these folk but these days way too dangerous to speak up.
