  • Romney Marsh

A couple of shots from a farm track on the marshes. I love the area - if you hadn't already guessed?

Wild Poppies growing on the verge.

A view towards the church from the track near Lydd - old farm building in the foreground.

I see sun shining on those silky poppy petals. Seems a bit at odds with the cold feel from the second shot. I can see why you like the place though. By including so much sky it seems to emphasise the 'flatness' down there. I like the distant view, and that is one lovely sky... Very dark up here.

          Re: Romney Marsh

Thanks for the comments. I'd would live down there given half a chance but I just have to make do with spending as much time as I can on the Nature Reserve, beach and other places in and around that area.

I know exactly what you mean about the striking difference in the lighting between the two shots. That's just one of the amazing things about the marshes. You can see miles and miles of sky and actually watch the weather fronts approaching, passing over then leaving. I'd had to go back to the 'van and change from jeans and warm T-shirt into an old Summer dress after I'd taken the shot of the Poppies because it had become so sunny and hot outside. I had to wrap up again and use a fill flash for that view across towards Lydd church. It can very contrasty with a clear sky one minute then you'll see clouds rapidly build up and have very flat lighting the next. It's an amazing place! Very challenging at times too.

Jim - I think they're still training the troops on the MOD Ranges near Denge Marsh. Access isn't possible for members of the public and the building appear to be in use most of the time.

There's a Wind Farm being erected too. 26 turbines to go up, 7 of them up so far. You can see them for miles as the landscape so flat. I'm just hoping and praying Lydd Airport (now known as London Ashford) won't get permission to expand any further.

Thanks Audrey. I'm so glad you appreciate that one because I'd lain down flat on my face to get it .... then discovered I was face down on top of an ants nest.

You need to get your G3 out again Pol with the Tilt and Turn Screen. I still use mine for low angle shots. However, it it only since I have had my Fuji S9500 and the Baby Panny, that I realise how slow it is to write up!

I still have the G3 and I still use it but I was out specifically to test one of the new Pentax lenses. Very nice lens it is too! 16-50mm f/2.8.
