  • Bluebells (well, you have to don't you?)

Not my best work but I couldn't resist stopping for a couple of minutes when I passed these whilst travelling to a meeting last Friday - I've always been a sucker for bluebells. Reckon I've left it too late for an organised shoot this year though

you cannot beat a carpet of bluebells. put a smile on your face.
you have captured the essence of the blue bell, pity you did not get chance for a close up.

Is it not just a little early for bluebells yet? The colours are nice but a bit thin on the ground from my recollection of bluebells in the forest from the past?

Perhaps they still have to peak but I always thought April was the best month for bluebells, certainly in Kent, a little later further north perhaps. I'll have to check some of my previous shoots to see what the dates were.

We visited my sister "down home" in Kent on saturday and we took her son Piers to the woods at Challock (near Ashford) to let off steam but the blubells there (normally a good spot) were very thin on the ground compared to the last few years.

If I get the chance over the bank-holiday weekend I'll go on a bluebell hunt nearer home (Noth Essex / Suffolk). I remember finding some reasonable patches near Alton Water resevoir when we were out cycling a couple of years back. If anyone knows of any good spots in this area perhaps they'd be kind enough to let me know.

          Hi Stuart

Very nice indeed. The only place I know with a decent amount of Bluebells will not be flowering for another couple of weeks.

The location is on the coast where i live in Co. Durham

          cheers Dave R

I was a bit out with my flowering times down here, I found some good patches in a local Suffolk wood last Friday lunchtime (might post a couple later) but for some reason I had it in my mind that April was the best month.

Seeing as it's still a couple of weeks to go for your more northern latitude I wonder if I'll see any up in the Lake District during the first week of June?

What a beautiful show, and such wonderfully composed scenes. I would just love the opportunity to have some shots at as many blue bells. I don't think I have ever seen so many.

                    Great views everyone ...

Wow .... 'ring' in the spring with the 'bells' of the woods ....

As Leslie Philips used to say .... 'ding dong' ...

                    or maybe I've dropped a 'clanger' ...

                    oooohh .... that was bad
