  • Grab shot of Prince Charles

I was working in Harrogate today and it just so happened that Prince Charles was visiting the Royal Hall there. It has just been completely renovated at great expense. Anyway as I was working at the Harrogate International Centre next door I was urged to go see what I could get. I just walked round the crowd and into the section reserved for the media, and stood with the rest of the press pack to wait for his arrival. Its amazing how you can do such things when you have a big camera and a long white lens on To be honest the view was not great and a lot of the time it was getting obstructed by dammed policemen and other hangers on in front. Fortunately as he walked up the steps of the Royal Hall I was in a good position and managed to run off a burst resulting in this. I rather liked the way Ken Dodd appeared over his shoulder, looking quite tickled

Oh lucky you Stephen, the first thing that struck me before reading your text was how much I liked the inclusion of Doddy (a great comedian).

Super capture, and good for you for having the 'spheres' to walk into the reserved area!

Well done Stephen. An excellent shot. You might be able to sell it.

You'd think Prince Charles could afford a new coat. He's been wearing it for years.

Only joking. He's easily recognisable in it and he obviously likes and feels comfortable in it. I expect it's cashmere and silk or something like that.

Thanks Ben and Audrey. Over the years I have occasionally found myself in a position when I've had the opportunity to get shots of famous people, even Royalty. Last Summer whilst working for a client in Torquay, I was in a position where I was the only person allowed to take photos of Princess Anne talking to selected guests at Dartmouth College. You just have to get on with it, push yourself forward and so long as you are not too much in their faces get the shots you need and back off. Anne was in fact most amenable, I was told later that I would have known about it if she had not been happy

Great grab shot Stephen - he looks remotely human!

Is it me, or is getting beakier?

              Nice one, Mr Pap.

Funnily enough I was reading about that renovation yesterday (I have a friend living a few miles north of there) and wondered if you might be photographing in the vicinity. I seem to recall you showing a few pics after you'd been covering an exhibition nearby a few years ago

                Excellent Stephen.
Could you be loking at money there?

Looking at the pic again, it is a really good composition with the other man's head leaning towards Prince Charles, as though they were sharing a joke.

Perhaps you should put this pic up for "Suggest a Caption!"

Wonderful shot! Can you imagine trying something like that in the US? With the President? You would be hauled off to Guantanamo or something.

It's actually a flattering picture with a great warm color!

Sorry Stephen, when I first looked at the shot, I thought...Stephen's posing at Madame Tussauds with 'Charlie' waxworks! He really does become more & more comical in looks as he ages....reminds me of Mad magazine images! I really do apollogise if I sound unrespectful...hmmmmm!

                          Hi Stephen

                          Bloody good show Sir.

Well done - right place at the right time.

I'm pleased that this got bumped up.
Wonderful shot and no doubt a grand occasion for you. Well done for taking the cheeky initiative.
