Re: My MELBOURNE
Yes, very normal, but not that many cities have trams or have such 'royalist' leanings! With names like Windsor Hotel, Princess Theatre where 'Phantom' is playing....all opposite Parliament Buildings....where the Australian flag bears the Union Jack amongst its stars that depict the number of states! Most of this is in the other photographs downloaded to my gallery however!

Re: My MELBOURNE
Hi Jocelyn,
Have looked at your images of melbourne, They do bring back memeories of my visits to my sister and family who resided in Endevour Hills at the time and later moved to the Dandenongs. and we still have friends residing at Blind Bite. (Spelling?). Melbourne really is a lovely city but like all cities it does have some very bad a run down areas that my brother in law had to work in and showed me round, The city is very lovely and cosmapolitan, lovely art galeries and museums and also many other places of interest, If I had the oportunity again I would photograph the poorer and less opulant areas and perhaps do a photo essay comparing the different areas and cultures contained in and around the Melbourne area, from the very poor to the very rich. However I do not expect that opportunity to come my way now.
A lovely set of photographs that bring back pleasent memories.
Best wishes, Dave.Catch Ya Later

Re: My MELBOURNE
Dave, thank you for looking at my Melbourne pics. I'm glad it brought back memories for you! Thank you also for such a lovely, newsy & friendly reply! It really is quite pleasant when someone takes the time of day to be chatty & nice!
Much appreciated! The Dandenongs is quite a nice area & it has a few nice scenic spots. Your idea of the photo essay comparing the have's & the have nots sounds quite good! I guess that occurs in every major city worldover! The Inner London slums....Glasgows not so hot & wrong side of the tracks area, Dusseldorf in Germany...near the Red light district......Amsterdam ....JohannesburgPerhaps in every big city, theres a tiny shack or shed that houses a family with 3 or 4 kids! On the other hand, there are also some people that choose to live in a squatter shack, in 1 of the big cities (Johannesburg's townships), because they don't have to pay for any amenities or rentals! Drive a posh car & earn the same wage as you or I! A man that worked with me, who was a manufacturing department supervisor, chose to reside in such a manner, whereas he could've afforded a similar house in a similar or same suburb as I! However, not all 'have nots' of the world choose to be in their particular predicament! I would love to photograph how Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe lives whilst a vast percentage of his Nation suffer the consequences of abject poverty!

Re: My MELBOURNE
Hi Jocelyn,
Yes these differences do exist in all the countries of the world, I just regret that I did not take the opportunity when it arose to photograph and record all the differences while in your lovely country, I did take many many photographs but mainly of the tourist sites, the city centers and landscapes and my sisters area of course, would not make a very good photo essay, I have photographed the differences in London and some of our bigger towns and cities many years ago, but on film and they are now filed away in the loft somewhere, If I get time I will have to look them out again, just to see and comppare the changes that have taken place, there have of course been some changes over the years, not always for the better,I am a country boy, I grew up in one of the poorer country villages, but we were rich in many ways and the people were wonderful, the village no longer exists as a single entity/community, only in name as it forms part of the vast urban sprawl that has and is taking over a large part of our beautiful countryside.
I would love to photograph how Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe lives whilst a vast percentage of his Nation suffer the consequences of abject poverty!
What a great idea "IF ONLY"
Best wishes
