  • The Sea!

Hi all. Here are a couple of shots taken through a window at the sea yesterday. I just thought it looked strange, the sun was in and out of the clouds for a while and I got these, the best of the worst!

All taken handheld, untouched except to resize, and they are colour pics-not black and white!

(if you look closely you can make out a ship on the horizon.......)

    Re: The Sea!

    Hi,

Firstly, I hope you dont mind, but I tidied your post up, so the pictures are presented underneath each other, as opposed to a long line, when I first saw the post, I thought it was a panoramic shot!

I really like these shots, first impressions are that they reminded me of that classic film 'The Fog'

I really like the 5th one. The pattern of the light coupled with the darker back drop makes it stand out vs the others. Although a few of those horizons look a little crooked.

      Best Regards

Aye, I agree about the horizons. I think there is a way to do it in Photoshop, when I get a minute I will have a go at straightening them out.

        Thanks for the edit Coupekid!

To straighten the horizon in PS .. here's the quickest and most accurate method :-

Open the image and use the "measure tool" (its in the group beneath the eye-dropper tool)

1)Draw a line along the horizon - straight along the slope of the horizon
          2) go to Image > Rotate > arbitrary and you'll find the figure for angle of the slope has already been entered by the measure tool
          3) click on 'ok' and the image will automatically adjust itself with a straightened horizon.

Hope that makes sense. It's very quick and easy when you're actually doing it - just a bit fiddly describing it in writing.

That is great Pol, many thanks. I know it is in my CS3 book somewhere but the book itself is missing at the moment!

            Thanks.

Eurrgh - those PS manuals can be such dull tomes to plod through!

There are some very good, often entertaining PS tutorial videos from Russell Brown (a senior member of the Abobe PS design team iirc) and a few free CS3 training videos at lynda.com. If you subscribe to lynda.com you'll have access to enough training videos to keep you busy for ages.

"The Russell Brown Show" link is HERE.

              The 'lynda' website is HERE.

P.S .... Here's a link describing who Russell Brown is.

He says "Learning about Adobe Photoshop should never be boring".. and he certainly isn't, as you can see from his picture.
