  • Day trip to London - The photos

    Dear All,

As you know I spent a day in London on Friday. Just me and my camera. This is the story of that day. For those of you who want to jump straight to all the pictures then please follow this link. (uploaded to Pbase cause I can upload loads at a time.) http://www.pbase.com/joshbear/november&page=all

Otherwise please follow the photo story below. You might want to get a cup of tea and biscuit before you start.

So The alarm went off at 5.15am and bleary eyed I got up and got ready as quietly as possible for to wake the two small "monsters" would undoubtable lead to trouble with the bigger "monster" who shares my bed. I had checked and packed all ,my gear the night before and put it downstairs. Fresh from my shower I made my way to the Local station to catch the 5.53am train to London waterloo. Pausing briefly at the station shop to buy the worst hot choc ever and a copy of the Sun. Yes it is trashy but.... well there is no excuse so I'll carry on.

Skip forward one hour and I reach London. A brief walk from Waterloo takes me to the London Eye and this is where I really start the day.

    Time for a break!

Time for a couple of abstracts

437 steps later at the top of St Pauls Camera gear needs to be lighter.

    Back where I started.

    Hope you enjoyed.

    Best Regards

    Josh

Enjoyed those Josh, thanks for showing them. You certainly seem to have had a full day, and been able to take advantage of the light both in the morning and evening.

Great set of photos that seem to tell us what a great day you had. I like what you did with the London eye shots. Also like the bus shot they are things that we have all seen time and time again but you have given them that bit of extra life. Oh and the starbucks how I miss those. Whenever me and the wife come over we always try to find a starbucks cafe.

well, I certainly enjoyed looking through those Josh.

There are a few memorable ones in there, (the abstract ones dont do too much for me though ).

I really loved the graffiti, the inclusion of the reflections works perfectly and the escalator shot is genius!

        Thanks for sharing them!

These are wonderful and a great inspiration. I'll be coming to London for the Christmas Holidays from San Diego and can't wait to start shooting.

          Thanks for sharing!

Really great set of pics with the early light showing to great advantage.
I haven't seen the London Eye from the viewpoint of your 1st shot before. Great framing

Hi Josh, I like your presentation idea- using the same "wheel" (is this the one called London Eye?) for the first shot and for the last as well. It matches the title "Day trip" nicely.

Well you certainly had a full day. loved the London eye.
Would like to see the evening one in full, similar to the morning one. But love the colours on it

Same as a few others the abstract ones did nothing for me.

Liked the one going up the escalator? not one I would have thought of.

May I ask did you have a tripod with you?

                  a great set of photos

                    Hi Ian,

And thanks for the additonal photos. They are great.

I've been lucky enough to have visited London once B4, last year in June. I loved the city. I'm hoping the weather will be OK when I'm there but who knows. I'll be there from the 21st throught the 29th. Staying with friends who just moved there themselves I assume somewhere in central London. If anyone can suggest some "must see" places for shooting that would be greatly appreciated.

Already on the list is the rest of the British Museum, as we only visited one wing the last time, and Saint Paul's Catherdral. Hopefully we'll be able to rent a car for a day or two and get out of town. I've been to Bath and to see Stonehenge and would love to consider some other areas for day trips for some landscape shooting if anybody could suggest some.

                    Thanks so much!
                    Philip

                      a great set of photos

                      Hi,

no tripod as the thought of carrying it all day was a little too much. I did take a joby gorilla pod which allowed me to get the longer exposures at the beginning and end of the day.

                      Best Regards

                      Josh
