Can the ornithologists on here ID this for me?

Taken at a local reservoir this morning, a bit too far away for my 70-300mm lens so this is a fairly hefty crop. (tried telling 'er indoors I need a Canon 100-400mm but she's not convinced...yet )

Just wondered what it is?

To answer my own question, courtesy of a field guide on British birds that I'd forgotten I had in the bookcase, I'm now 99% sure it's a Lapwing.

Seemed odd to be researching it in a book and not looking it up on the 'net...
