  • First wedding shoot - no more after this - promise!

Think these probably belong here rather than on a single thread in the critique forum ( http://dpnow.com/forum2/showthread.php?t=4175 ) but please feel free to advise / criticise as you see fit.

A few more from my first wedding shoot yesterday (for my brother and FOC so he can't complain!).

First the kiss that seals the deal - with a very happy registrar beaming in the background. (Although the wedding was outside, the ceremony had to take place in a doorway by law !?)

The signing of the register (posed with a blank page - the law apparently states that you can't photograph the actual signed page - you learn a lot doing this job ). Do not recalibrate your monitor - my brother really is that colour!

Nightmare lighting for this one - very bright, almost pure white sky behind the couple which was a shame - it turned nice and blue an hour later but we were eating by then! (bit more contrast?)

Not sure about this one, too fussy? (and ugly shadow from the railing top left?)

And finally, the main group shot, all smiling at a camera on a tripod because I'm in the picture courtesy of the 20 second delay timer. (I accidentally set it at 2 seconds first time round and took a photo of my back hence the reason everyone is laughing!)

I think a little more attention getting the tripod more central wouldn't have gone amiss?

These above were all done fairly quickly using Canon Raw Image Task and CS2 in order that the B&G had something to see today.

All shots taken with a Canon 40D & Canon 17-85mm IS lens. They will all be processed again (along with the other 300+) when DxO update their RAW processing software to handle the 40D. This will help cure the distortion the 17-85mm is prone to, especially at the wide end.

Would I like to be a pro wedding 'tog....er, no.

Am I happy with my 40D on its first real assignment? ...yes, on balance, I think I am.

Well I reckon you did a good job, Stuart. I'd be delighted with them if it had been my own wedding. It looks like a happy, family event and there are some good exposures of the happy couple, along with good exposures of her dress. That's what matters most imho and that's what you seem to have achieved.

Congratulations Stuart on a job well done.
The shadow that you dislike on the 'Stairs' shot doesn't bother me at all. Don't care for that animal statue though.
Sorry, I know these aren't for critique but is that group shot leaning to the right?

I don't want to critique each one. I just think that they are a super set of photographs and you brother and his wife must be delighted. It is only you as a photographer that will notice the bits and bobs. I am still looking for that ugly shadow (unless you mean the animal!)

Nice group - your accidental on purpose 2 second time obviously loosened them all up.

You know Patrick Lichfield used to have all these Royals stiffly lined up and then would blow a whistle, which would startle them and then they would all start to laugh. He then pressed the shutter.

Congrats on a good set of pix.

Actually, believe it or not, my daughter had the whistle! A tip I was given either on this forum or another that I occasionally frequent
