I may take you up on that option when it gets warmer next year though, Jen is convinced we have a wasps nest by the bedroom window, but so I understand they evacuate when it gets colder.

We get wasp's nest around the place too. There was a large one in a bird nesting box beneath high windows in the living room - small windows high up the wall. They didn't cause any problems and we just kept the small windows closed. The wasps left in the Winter and didn't come back. I gather they don't usually return to a previous nest. We cleaned the nesting box thoroughly after they'd gone and spayed the box with wasp killer spray. We've previously had them in the loft and garage too but they didn't cause us any problems so we never bothered doing anything about it.

We've never seen rats near the bird feeders or anywhere else in the garden. We get small wood mice and have had small field mice nesting under the compost bins but they've never been a problem. I think the neighbour's cats probably keep them under control as we sometimes find dead ones in places the cats tend to lurk.

Cats can be the worst problem we have to deal with near the wildlife feeders.

I have had to temporarily stop feeding the birds in my wildlife garden.

The wife put a saucer out with some seeds etc as a robin kept visiting.......then a bleedin great big brown rat scurried passed and on to the seeds and began nicking them all!

Needless to say, all feeders have now been emptied, and I have a mate coming round at the weekend to help me track it down and 'deal' with it.
We have had a few rats after the spilled food from the feeders. Our local shop sell little Sacha's to get rid of rats. I'm sure they contain Viagra. Well they are usually very stiff when we find them .

The variety of wildlife seems to be coming back after a long time trying to get the new neighbour's horrible cats under control.

We're getting the Woodpeckers visiting again too, though I haven't managed to get any shots yet.

We've also got the Coal tits coming regularly and also an occasional Collared Dove again - so it's getting more interesting out there.

Still no sign of Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Siskin and others as yet.

We've also had to stop leaving out the hedgehog food as her wretched cats were taking it.
