Aah! I'm not as infatuated by steam trains as some, but this is a nice scene. I guess the light was fading cos I can see some camera shake, but let's not hold that against the perspective!

Like the way you showed the bend of the track. Poor old driver looks a bit scrunched up

The light was certainly fading, hence the warm light on the tracks and engine from the sun going down.

The train was actually moving and the shot is one of a quick sequence I took as it came around the bend gathering speed. That explains the 'camera shake' you think you can see ..... yi cheeky young man.

It was shot with the K10D at ISO 200, F 6.3 at 1/160 - camera AS turned on.

It's one of the first shots I took with the camera last March. I was going through some archived folders last week and came across the sequence. I like it because of the evening lighting and the train driver was smiling at me on that particular shot. I'd sneaked onto the platform as they were shutting up shop and leaving for the night. It's a tourist attraction that also runs a limited timetable out of season.

I've never ride on it myself. Never fancied being cramped up in one of those compartments having my bones bumped and shaken.

BTW - the Dungeness station is almost immediately opposite the old lighthouse. That's the black lighthouse that wanted to be a windmill. The one pictured HERE

Lovely shot Pol and well framed. Great to see the driver and also some carriages towards the rear.

            Thanks.

If we're down there and there's a train in sight I try to catch a snap of the driver. There are some permanent drivers but I gather a lot of them are part timers. Our eldest son mentioned that someone who worked in the same studio as him is a part time driver. The driver chap had apparently explained that they have to drive the trains for a set number of times per year in order to maintain the skills, competenc and licence requirements and insurance etc.

So I try to capture as many mug shots as I can and am always asking our son "is this the fella from your studio?"

Either I've never managed to snap him yet or nobody is letting on to me which of them is a part-time miniature chuffabilly driver.

Ah Yes, I know it well, I lived in Lydd for a while, very popular with tourists and locals alike, workers at the power station also use to and from work.
