  • Perhaps I was wrong......

Regular readings of this forum will recall that I have, on several occasions, given the Canon 18-55mm standard zoom lens bad press. In fact I gave mine away to my sister who bought a Canon 350D body and saved herself a few quid as a result. "You will want to upgrade it at some point" I said, feeling that I should apologise in advance for the poor quality of the results I thought she would experience.

Well, in the event she's getting consistently good images from it. Here's an example she sent me tonight - perhaps I should reconsider? Perhaps I should ask for it back?

Her son Piers in the bath.

    Hey, that's a beautiful shot!

I'll have Piers and you can have the lens.

Pol, I guarantee you would want to give him back after 15 minutes! Unless you've got a "Bob the Builder" straight-jacket, some steel cable or anchor chain and a floor shackle mounted in at least one ton of concrete! I kid you not!

My brother and I have to look after him the Saturday after next while his mum and the rest of the girls are out on a hen night

Must remember to get the cattle-prod charged up

So Piers isn't always an innocent, easy-to-manage, quiet little chap, eh.

        Good for him.

Have a good time getting 'bashed' whilst the lasses are at the bash.

Super sharp, ovely colouring and the soap suds look real.
I also gave the 55mm lens away

Well, I have used mine for close up shots of the kids. Got this one I will post now, I just love it, they were just messing about when the picture was taken.... What do you think?

              Nice shot m8.

Think I might rather look after Piers than those two - they look a right handful!

Cheers! I just posted it to show you the 18-55 Canon lens is not that bad!!

The little one on the right, she is so laid back, such a nice kid to have around, absolutely no trouble whatsoever, her parents may disagree on that but you know what kids are like!! One on the left is mine, she is ok, no problem really but does get stroppy now and again. My eldest daughter though, seven coming on seventeen......

Just goes to show, never give your lenses away there is nearly " I say nearly" always a setting that works and produces the goods.

Superb capture Stuart, I have never had any problems with the lense, you know what they say about a workman though! Looks like yer sister has the knack with it.
