  • Brighton Sunrise

    Dear All,

Decided to make a real effort and get out with my camera for a proper days photography for the first time since May.

I set the alarm for 4.30am, quick shower just to convince myself that I was awake and then into the car for the hour and half to Brighton. Drove to the seafront and captured the sunlight hitting the pier for the first time that day.

I thought I would share here.

    Best regards

    Josh

Josh, its my opinion that this is the best way to go about it. Being able to catch the light like this makes it all worthwhile. I just wish my last two trips had got such good light

I'd also suggest getting a like minded friend to come with you.

Look forward to seeing some more

Very nicely done Josh . Well worth the effort of getting up so early - I tend to prefer sunsets

Josh - you seem to have retrieved your inspiration and motivation nicely

At first glance I thought your shot was an HDR. I love the deep green of the jetty or whatever contrasting with the flecked sky and the golden aspect of the pier - very nice!

A result like that should convince the sleepy heads to get up early.

              Thanks all,

slightly miffed that i forgot the rule about not putting the horizon in the centre of the picture but still happy.

The picture is not HDR and I guess is testement to the dynamic range of the 5D.

It is ages since I have been walking around at that time. The quality of the light is superb.

              Best regards

Probably would have been a good subject to try a HDR shot on though? Although I agree that the 5D has coped extremely well.

                  Re: Brighton Sunrise

funnily enough i did bracket by 1 stop each side. would that be suitable for HDR. Don't have the software though

Here is another picture from the same morning

Another cracking shot Josh. I wonder, should I have bought the 5D instead of the 40D.......STOP!

I think 3 images would be regarded as the absolute minimum for the HDR process - I've had reasonable success with that number.

You could try the free trial of Photomatix here http://www.hdrsoft.com/download.html it does, unfortunately, put a watermark on the image but you'll still be able to see how well it's worked.

                      Re: Brighton Sunrise

I think both images are absolutely superb. The lighting and the composition. With regard to the horizon, it is not quite half way it IS above the middle and if you really wanted to make it more above centre, you could take a little of the top of the sky.

I wouldn't, because I think the picture is lovely as it is. I like the strong green mossy jetty coming in from the bottom.

I am sure you have a couple of winners there.

Congrats. It was worth getting up for.
