Andrew and I visited The Wall last Thursday, and after a two & a half hour drive, we arrived in the car park at Steel Rigg near Hadrians Wall. To say we were a tad miffed would be an understatement, as the whole area was shrouded in mist. As we walked towards our 'viewpoint' the dark mass of the outcrop loomed through the mist. It was quite spooky but as we stood and watched, slowly the wind started to move it a little and we could see more clearly.
Our goal which had been to get the sunrise, was never going to happen though, so we decided to climb up to the top of the Rigg and along the top, hopefully finding some photo opportunity. It was not until we reached one of the gaps with a fort in that we were able to do anything worthwhile, and even then the possibilities were restricted by the mist. Eventually Sycamore Gap appeared and we were able to get something approaching a moody shot.
Walking back along the side of the Rigg the sun finally started to appear, but frankly it was too late and the moment had gone. We arrived back at the car about two hours after leaving it, we had not passed or seen another soul along the route. Anyway I turned to look back and grabbed this shot, the last I took at Hadrians wall after moving on.
Cropped from the bottom to remove superfluous foreground, converted to Mono and tonemapped. It somehow flatters reality

But what's with the heavy black borders. Just seem too much for my liking.
