  • Constable country

We have an insane schedule this weekend but I had to stop on the way through Dedham in Suffolk to take this shot - my first 40D post. Still getting to grips with the camera and I couldn't use my normal RAW converter (DxO) as it doesn't handle the camera yet. Not overly happy with the shadows (I underexposed 1 stop to avoid burning out the sky which may have caused the problem) but I'll have another go at processing the RAW file later.

Still, thought it was a pleasant English country scene!

Couldn't resist converting another shot into a John Constable style painting (simple PhotoShop filters, didn't have time for anything else)

Stuart, I like the first image, as you say it's a very English rural scene. It would be less appealing of course without the cattle and rowing boats.

As for the shadows I found that the Shadow Highlight tool in PS worked wonders, though I reduced the Tonal range to about 35 and boosted the mid tone contrast.

Must say I'm not keen on the second shot, it doesn't work for me

Here's a tweaked version with a little selective shadow & highlights on the right and a small contrast boost on the left.. Looks better to me? Got to go again before 'er indoors finds out that I'm slacking No peace for the wicked
