  • Weekend in Devon

Spent the weekend in Lynton, North Devon.
Their scarecrow festival is on, and this was my favourite:

It was quite close to "Pyrex of the Caribbean", but I couldn't get far enough up the road to get a good shot.

Standing outside the Rising Sun pub in Lynmouth for their raft race on the Saturday (which was won by Dad's Army - but allegedly they cheated by having a dinghy under their raft) we got extensively water and flour bombed - perhaps because we were standing with Ally, who is usually in one of the pub teams - I told Terry that it wasn't a good idea to wear all black. And I haven't tackled Bob's shirt and jeans yet - they could practically stand up on their own . I don't think Ally's lager tasted too good either - at least Bob and I were drinking cloudy cider - and I'd been sensible (?) enough to wear very pale colours!

A couple of the shots of the teams on the way out to the buoy, and the way back:

And finally, although they didn't win they made me smile - taken just before they were towed up the slipway. They seemed quite surprised that their jeep wouldn't start!

Wonder what the lads will think of this kind of racing??

Well, there was a reason for that

This was taken just after they'd passed us (cowering in front of the pub door trying to avoid the flour bombs - and the landlady had got hacked off and locked us out!)

By the time the entire parade had passed, that road was completely white - so much for the organisers coming round at the start and saying 'no flour bombs on the road this year please' - that lasted until the teams saw Ally in the pub doorway
