Whilst I accept the criteria that led you to using B/W, I've taken loads of shots of old wrecks and the like and always found them more pleasing in colour, even though I may have altered things slightly. This shot for example was taken under pretty dire conditions and yet with a little tweaking I feel has benefitted from remaining in colour. I like the idea of toning in principle, but with your particular example I can't help wanting more contrast.
