Welcome back Stephen, I sure am envious. Some cracking pics for starters particularly the Bald Eagle landing. You captured the perfect moment with wings spread and feet ready for landing. That new long lens certainly came in useful. I am sure you must have some more super pics, keep them coming.
Regards Dennis
Wow ..... absolutely stunning ..... I'm green with envy
I missed the original thread .... which lens ?
Thanks Jeremy, the lens was a Canon 100-400 4.5-5.6 L IS. I'd bought it especially for the trip, with the intention of possibly reselling it after. Still undecided on that one, I certainly like the IS, but its more than I need for my usual work.
Here's another shot taken at the Mendenhall Glacier near Juneau, the Alaskan capitol

I like this one very much. I like the lovely range of gentle but 'earthy' colours and tones and the water is beautiful with those ripples, snowy patch and occasional reflective breaks in the surface.
I hope you won't decide to let the 100-400mm lens go.
You made the effort and you have it now so why not hang onto it and use it from time to time.

Nah....sell it to me, I have a cooool one hundred English pounds with your name on it!
Seriously though, I agree with Pol, I would definately keep it, looks like your getting some excellent results with it!....I want one too!!
Nice to see you back and obviously having enjoyed your break. Can't say anymore than others have already said - great photographs. The one in post #4 to me is quite fantastic, but the Mendenhall Glacier looks so perfect too - I could watch that on the wall for quite some time.
Thanks for your comments everyone.
Its been a bit of a job going through the many photos taken on our trip. Its always difficult to select a representative sample.
Anyway I've just uploaded about 40 shots to my Alaska gallery. There are inevitably an abundance of mountains and glaciers, and I've missed many out that could easily have been included, maybe I change them for another batch soon
I've also included a new gallery on my personal site which is accessible from the link in my sig

That little 'plane looks like fun! I'd imagined you'd be in something slightly larger with more people. It must have been very exciting, more 'personal' and adventurous skimming along in there.

It was brilliant, just an eight seater and I sat in the co-pilots seat on the return leg.
This was the Misty Fiords float plane excursion which I booked over the internet before the holiday. It came highly recommended and was better than the ones done through Princess etc. The owner and pilot landed on one of the fiords and we all got out to walk around. Unfortunately it was a tad damp that morning and there was a fair bit of cloud, but we got some great views and you were able to take in something of the scale of the area. We had only been out a minute and some said 'Look there's a bear over their' It was a black bear just grazing a short distance away. It was the first one the pilot had seen this year, as they have not long been out of hibernation. Unforunately I was unable to get a photo with my camera, but thats another story
