This picture has had a fair bit of work done on it (taken with a wide angle lens and so verticals corrected) plus it was a difficult time - just about to rain.
It looks like an old temple, but it's apparently only about ten years old.
We went to the Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar (Burma) and Laos converge. We actually took a trip down the Mekong to Laos and did the touristy thing of posting a card back home to ourselves with the Laos postmark on.
I really loved every minute of that holiday as I am sure you did.
PS I hadn't realised that you had taken the pic through an arch. I thought it was one of these software frames.

lovely photo I like the way its been framed by the arch.
You say it was about to rain but I think the dark cloud adds to set the temple up.
was it as wow as it looks in the photo?

Actually, it was a bit disappointment as some areas weren't yet complete and some of the completed areas were already falling to bits.
It was a holiday and packed with noisy people, nobody respected the peace and sanctity you expect in these places. I'm not an expert on buddhism, but I was surprised to see a lot of gold statues of monks being venerated - some even depicted wearing spectacles. There were more of these than buddha statues, which seemed odd!
