Hi FP,
A nice atmospheric shot, what camera is this then?
As you have not posted in the 'critique' section I wont go into too much depth, but do you post process at all, as I reckon some of those dark areas could be bought up nicely.

its my new one the olympus e 400, the sale price was good.
I did try but I seem to make it worse.
If you wish to critique then please do, it is the only way I will learn.
Did not put it in critique because as first attempt did not think it worthy. was just excited at how much better it seemed.

Hi
You certainly didn't start with easy conditions a night shot of all things.
I feel it is a shade too contrasty, I presume you used JPG, I suspect if you go into the menu this can be lowered for future use, as can in camera sharpening if you feel it necessary.
None of this applies if you used RAW, as you would control these in the processing program on the computer.

I'm not surprised you were excited and just a litle bit chuffed! I reckon that's a very good effort, especially considering you've only just got the camera and it's completely different to any you've handled before.
Are you gonna tell us you were handholding the camera too? I'm guessing you were and, if so, you did a pretty good job at holding it steady as the shot is clear and acceptably sharp.
As Ben said - it could be enhanced very nicely with some post processing to lift some of the dark areas.
Nice launch for the new kit imho.
I'd be delighted if that shot were mine. I have no proper night shots and can't manage to get around well enough to go for any..... yet.

On the one hand, that's a very respectable night shot, but it's also a very tough type of picture to get really right - something is always going to be underexposed or burned our or both because of the extreme dyanimic range of the scene. The human eye can deal with this very well, but all cameras will have a tough time with this kind of scene.
So - not bad, indeed very good in the circumstances, but you might be better off trying some simpler shots to start with

Hi, F P,
A new unknown camera? a night shot? and raining? you don't make life easy for yourself do you. and you live in a nice area by the looks of those houses,
In the circumstances this image is a great result, the camera certainly appears to be a good one, I think you can be proud of your first attempt with it.
