Very nice Jocelyn!
These are my wife's favorite creatures and they tend to be my favorite too. I do not know the English name for them, but I do like their way of living and behaving as they are very peaceful animals, mostly between their own family.
I saw a whole 2 hour documentary show on TV about them the other day.

Hi George, I'm pretty sure these are Meerkats (see [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meercat[/ame]) - insectivore burrowing mammals that live in well-organised social groups. I believe they come from Africa. They are very cute - a small zoo has some not far from us and they are very entertaining.Originally posted by Archangel View Post

Yes Ian, you are right! They are indeed meerkats. a type of mongoose found in Southern Africa mainly! They are actually quite small creatures. We have a TV series here in Australia called 'Meerkat Manor' which depicts the life of a group or groups of meerkats & its amazing to watch! They are extremely social & endearing. They are one of my favourite animals thats why I concentrated on photographing them at the zoo the other day! I will be downloading a few more shots of the meerkats in my gallery soon! I took at least 50 If you have a look in my gallery George, I downloaded a shot of 2 male lions standing together on a hillock, both looking to the side. This shot was taken through the fence! The camera blurred the actual fence, so you don't see it, but made parts of the lions blurry, especially on the rump of 1 lion! I was amazed how the camera managed to do that.....blur the fence out....as fence was about a foot from the camera! The lions were about 25 to 30 foot away!

They are originally from South Africa, though probably spread now in some other continents.
Now that I found the English name, I forgot how we call them in Greek!

I saw the lions in your gallery yesterday morning.
The blur part of the lion that you mention is probably due to some vertical lighting beam and due to angle that a light beam was hitting the lens, because the photo is partially blurred in that place, or it is due to the fence blurring idol.
I've got a similar photo entered in the Salon Competition 14, with the parrots behind a metal cage. The camera (the FZ5 at that time) blurred somewhat the metal lines and on the edge of each line an lighter idol could bee seen. Thought in my case the metal wires were blue and the idols on either side much more visible.
In cases like that that you try to zoom through a fence, try to zoom as much as possible and enough to completely get rid of the fence from the lens, rather than having the camera to blur the fence in the foreground.
