  • Spring flowers in Crete

These are partly for George - he said that I should visit Greece. I actually went to Crete during the last week of March and did take some photos of spring flowers. However, having seen George's I was a little discouraged. As I've previously said to George, I'm still having trouble with the macro settings on my Canon A710, so these have been taken with the macro on my camera phone - a Sony K800i.

And the final one isn't actually from Crete, but from a bouquet I was given by a client as a thank you. I know the gypsophilia is blown out, but haven't managed to learn how to sort that.

    Caz,

As I wrote you in a previous thread, there is no need to be discouraged.
"Discouraged" is a word ,forbidden into a photographer's dictionary
Besides that, not all shots of any photographer come out perfect at all times.
All of us have our good and not so good attempts, and that is a very strong motive to experiment more and more at all times.
To be honest I think you did a very decent job with your phone's camera and that with a little post processing even these shots could look that they came out of a camera.

      Hi Caz,
If you can take photo's this good with a phone, you will certainly become able to produce top quality with your camera given time and practice, so do not be discouraged, I, like you, am getting used to the macro on my camera "A Fuji" at first the images were iffy and at best acceptable, but I feel I am now getting to grips with the camera and some improvement is evident, I will post some later, I like the thinking behind your images, the colors and presentaion of these images are great, so please keep on practicing, I can assure you will improve.

Thank you both for your comments.

That's why I've come on here - to learn, which is why we all ask for critique in the first place!

When I'm not working so darn hard, must get out and take some more pictures ;-) haven't had time for about 10 days!

I wouldn't be discouraged if my mobile phone pics came out like yours! I haven't tried my phone camera yet! I recently got a Sony K610i & am still trying to work out how it text messages let alone take pics! Its supposed to have a mp3 player & I can't work out how to download music on it yet either! how many megapixels does your phone have...mine is supposed to be 2 mp!

            Hi Caz,
The Sony K800i and several of the new Nokias Nseries are capable of very acceptable snaps and these can make decent 6x4 prints.

The first two are a bit washed out - possibly there was dirt on the lens? But the rest are good.

Thanks Jocelyn. My phone's a Sony K800i, the first one they did as a cybershot. It's got 3 MP, but only a digital zoom (which I try to avoid using because the photo quality goes right down hill ) However, I've been very pleased with it at the macro settings.

And to download music to your phone, you're going to need a reasonable memory card in there. My last phone was also a Sony, a K750i which actually came with a produo card of a reasonable size. This time, there's a mini sd slot, but nothing in it yet! It does mean I have to clear photos/videos out pdq.

It's simple enough to get music on there from your computer - basically 'copy to' or drag and drop.

Shame you're in Australia - I've got the flash attachment for that phone!
