It's a big Calamari. I think you call it squid in English, but I'm not sure.
Though as you know what it is now, you also know what is the right English word for that, which I would like to know too.
In Greek the big Calamari, we call it "Katamahi"
I use to fish those at night from the boat using a torch light that you rub it against a fluorescent fake bate, that flashes inside the sea.
They are attracted by the light, when they see something fluorescent in the sea and they go like crazy to grab it. Then you pull up as fast as you can to hook it on a special construction that is under the bait with many tiny hooks.
When you bring it up to the boat, it releases much water and makes everything wet inside the boat.
They range from half a kilo up to 3-4 kilos each.
If you get a 2 kilo and up it is like a monster and especially at night when is dark and you pull it out of the sea.
They live mostly in deep waters and mostly next to the cliffs where the sea gets deep suddenly.

That one was around 600-700 grams, half dead in very swallow water as you can see inside the harbor and this time instead of a hook, I got it with my camera

Thanks George for the interesting description of both the fish and the mehod employed to catch them. Yes the English is in fact squid - also the Italians call them Calimari.

What a super set of pics.
I see you placed the guy smoking smack bang centre against all rules and regulations of composition....well it works just fine
I thought the bows of the Penelope was going to smash through my screen.
Most of all I like the night shot. I see that you used a 8sec exposure. Did you try other exposures and if so what was the outcome.

Usually, I follow partially some basic rules in most of my compositions, though the most successful thing in photography is to successfully break a rule, or try to create your own as those that they were created and supposed to be basic
The guy smoking and the Penelope ferry are crops from full size shots.
Here is the full size photo of Penelope and another not completely full size of the guy in the harbor.

The last photo of the fishing boat was taken long time ago and with the FZ5. It was taken from the other side of the harbor using 9.4X zoom.
From the right side of the boat things were dark black and from the other were the lights of the dock. Somehow I had to balance the lighted part not to be too bright enough to avoid blown highlights. The FZ5 has maximum shutter of 8 seconds anyway, but I underexposed the photo by -1EV using ISO80. Though that boat had 2 spotlights on for the fisherman in the back that were arranging the day's caught fishes in wooden cases, throwing some in the sea and the seagulls behind were flying and diving in the sea to eat the thrown away fishes.
I did try other exposures with faster shutter speeds and with higher ISOs, but they were either darker or brighter. That one was for me the most balanced, from the distance I was shooting and with the available light that was completely dark from the right side and very well and strong lit from the left side of the dock.

A good set of interesting pictures again George.

I like the second one with the tractor. There seems to be a lot going on there and the man on the speedboat speaks volumes in body language with his hands on his hips.

The night shot is quite impressive and makes me want to stay and look around the picture. I also like your portrait of the man having a cigarette. He looks very relaxed - your original picture uncropped, I mean.

Now I have seen the original of the guy smoking I rather prefer this one. Being seated he looks completely relaxed and having time to himself quite oblivious of the hustle and bustle going on around him. I rather envy him.
