  • Sunaday Morning in the Cafes

Sunday morning in the cafes in downtown Athens, testing my FZ30 and drinking the classic all year round Greek Ice Coffee called "frappe" in Greek.

Hi George, I especially like the first one with the guy peeping past his parasols. Lots of nice candid shots there and lots of different moods captured. Good work!

      Hi George,
An absolutely brilliant set of candid shots, bright cheerful and colorful, did the parents know you took the childs picture? unfortunately, over here one would be in trouble with the parents or even arrested and quizzed by the police if a complaint was made. Love the flower shot.

        No such problems here Tinka.
The same way everybody is free to walk in the streets and look everywhere he/she wishes, the same way photographers can point their camera anywhere in the public they wish too.
In museums, even with ancient statues and related things, photography is permitted.
It is only forbidden in private designated areas, metro stations (but you can still take photos if you ask for a written permission to do so).
In military bases it strictly forbidden.
All the rest are free to photograph, even paintings on the street from street artists.

You must be pleased with your FZ30 as you have captured some lovely shots with it there. They are all so relaxed and spontaneous. I like the one of the guy carrying the tray, is he thinking "Now am I going to get through here?" The iced coffee looks cool. And the yellow flowers with water droplets has to put a smile on any one's face - they cheer me up.

This out on the street stuff is always very hard to get right (one chance only) but you have managed a very pleasing selection.
The guitarist is my favourite George. He looks like Bono's older brother a little. Only problem here is the sight of the peoples heads, easy to clone out, under his left arm.
The waiter with the tray is spoiled somewhat by the intrusion of the tree on the right but his expression is great.

Nice set of lovely colorful pictures, George. I am somehow impressed that you too have seemingly a paper umbrella with a bamboo stick.

                    Thanks Tom.

The intrusion of the tree in the waiter photo is done intentionally
As far as the singer is concerned and other photos, nothing is cloned out as these are street photos and the scenery should remind of that.

                      Yoshi,

After the Olympic Games were held in Greece 2 summers ago, some Asian people, mostly from China (that will hold the next Olympic Games) came to Greece and open their own little business, mostly with clothes and other traditional Chinese things. There are not that many, but you see them from time to time. So there was this guy selling these traditional Asian bamboo umbrellas (I'm not sure from which exact country these were originated) around the cafes area where I was sitting.

A few months ago it was shown on TV that some Chinese people also open restaurants in China serving Greek food. A Greek reporter was in China visiting most of these places opened there and filming the happening in these restaurants.

An absolutely brilliant set of photographs George. You must be very pleased with your new camera.

The quality is so crisp and the colours so vibrant.

                        What delightful candid shots.

                          Indeed Audrey.
I'm very pleased with the FZ30 as I'm still pleased with my smaller FZ5. Though there are a lot more options in the FZ30, plus the manual rotating zoom and focus rings remind me my old film cameras, they are a pleasure to use and they don't consume battery power.
The flash is also adjustable (same like in the FZ5) but is very powerful for a camera in this class.

George, my absolute favourite is the flower shot, then the waiter who looks like he's worried its gonna fall! Do you think maybe the FZ30 is a better bet than buying the Nikon D40 which I had my eye on recently! Maybe I don't need a DSLR after all!

Hi Yoshi! Hope you are well.

They are Chinese parasols, I think - for the sun, not the rain

You can buy these quite inexpensively in Chinatown here in the UK.
