Down here in the south we had about 2-4 inches Wed night , it had mostly all thawed out by evening .
Just taken the dog for a walk and although the snows still around in patches on the grass it's quiet mild .
I've travelled all over the world in winter and summer , and NOWHERE is as ill prepaired for snow like we are . even with the forecasters telling us all week about the snow , we still get caught out by a few inches .
I can remember winters that lasted for weeks and we just got on with it .
I first started work in the winter of 63 and had nearly 3 months of snow , the Medway froze but still everybody worked as usual .
Nowadays it seems everyone just needs an excuse to stay at home
AH well off to work ..
Hello All! My goodness How much Snow are you guys getting over there in the UK? Who has the biggest amounts? Jennifer
We had maybe 5cm here in the SE but it soon thawed. We rarely have snow in these parts, maybe only a day or two every 3-4 years or so, if that. So it's not worth stockpiling a lot of sand/salt/grit and having a lot snow clearing vehicles as they'd be standing idle for maybe 4-5 years. Therefore there can be some temporary travel disruption at times when snow does fall.

Well the mountainous regions in Wales, the far NW of England and of course Scotland tend to get the worst of the snow generally, but Stephen and I live in West Yorkshire (as does Ash) which is at the foot of the Pennine hills and gets a fair amount of snow each year, although rarely for longer than a couple of weeks' worth each year. On this occasion we have probably had a few inches (and it's still coming down as we speak), but in the past I've known it to be several feet deep, so you never really know what to expect
Being located in the East Midlands we usually tend to miss most of the snow nowadays. However...today it started snowing around 2pm (GMT) this afternoon and it's still coming down very hard indeed. This is falling on top of the 3 inches or so that we had yesterday so the morning could well have us up to our kneecaps in the stuff.
