  • Icy canal this morning

The Grand Union Canal near my home in Apsley this morning:

A thin, but distinct, skin of ice formed overnight. We won't get the 10 inches of additional snow Pat will get in New York but I'm expecting a covering of overnight snow tomorrow morning.

This was taken using the Huawei Mate 20 Pro smartphone, using its 16mm (full frame equivalent) ultra-wide angle 20-megapixel camera, recorded in RAW DNG and processed in Lightroom Classic CC.

If one snowflake settles. The country will be grid locked tomorrow

Funny, how the appearance of sunshine makes the photo look bright and almost warm.
But I suspect it was pretty cold there.

That phone sure does work well in the right hands.

Haha - Garry; you are too kind

It now looks less likely that we will have significant snow here, maybe just a dusting. I'll look at the same spot on the canal tomorrow morning and take an 'after' shot if it's worth it.

The snow was pathetic! More expected tomorrow though (Thursday).

          Re: Icy canal this morning

Well, we received 2-3 inches of snow last night. Not a lot compared to what the polar vortex is dumping on the US at the moment, but it's rather nice all the same (if you aren't travelling!).

My daughter, who lives near London Bridge in central London hasn't seen any snow so far!

I'll venture out a bit later and post some photos!

The distance may not be far between us but it seems we might be further North.

              Wow, that looks cold, Barr1e

We did have a light snow fall. But it was melting away by the time we left for work this morning.

Being right on the south coast. We don't often get heavy snow.

By yesterday afternoon the 2-3 inches of snow we had was beginning to melt:

This was taken with the new Honor View 20 smartphone I currently have - it doesn't have an ultra wide angle lens so I might have been mistaken on the original one taken using the Huawei Mate 20 Pro - sorry for any confusion!

                  That looks better, Ian.

                  Looks very wintery, and cold.

Wen to Southsea yesterday to see my daughter, who is at Portsmouth Uni. There was a lot of snow on the downs south of London but none by the time we reached Portsmouth. It was bitterly cold though! I had lots of layers on but still felt uncomfortably cold - -6 wind-chill!

Ha ! Just got back from Portsmouth. ( Shopping expedition )

I know the Uni well. We wanted our son to go there. But he chose anther.

Yes. There is a little snow around on the hills. But fortunately, none on the roads.
