  • Drone view of River Bulbourne

I've posted this shot for a couple of reasons. First of all, it's 1600x1200 pixels, which is - in my view too large to view in a desktop computer Web browser. I can't see all of the image without scrolling the page on my 2560 x 1440 WQHD display. It would be even worse on a 1080HD display and it would still be a bit tight on a 4K display.

Therefore I recommend that gallery uploades should be no more than around 1000 pixels wide.

I have also had a message from one of our most valued members who has had problems posting images 1MB in size. Again, file sizes this larger are unnecessary. The image in this post is too large in pixel dimensions but it's only a 460K file.

So please try to make your gallery photos limited to around 1000 pixels wide and under 500K.

Secondly, this is a drone shot, about taken about 46 metres up from the Durrants Hill Road car park in Apsley. I'm now using a DJI Spark drone instead of the Zerotech Dobby I was using earlier in the year. I sold the Dobby because, although its stills were good, I wasn't satisfied with the video stability. The Spark is more expensive but still reasonably affordable and has a 2-axis (roll and pitch stabilisation) mechanical gimbal, combined with digital stabilisation for the third axis (yaw), which is a reasonable compromise.

Have you taken video with the new drone as yet Ian and if so are pleased with it?

Yes, if there is any wind the video is much better than the Zerotech Dobby. The actual video quality if there is no wind causing instability is fairly similar.

          Interesting point about sizing.

I can view it quite easily on my computer (widescreen monitor) but haven't tried it on my phone.

Most of my web stuff is under 100k - if I post anything larger than that, the musicians pinch it which is why nowadays I rarely post stuff on Facebook anyway, just personal stuff, and link to a website where it's most difficult to screenshot/right click.

Likewise! I can see this photo on my screen without scrolling.
In fact. I could see larger than this.

But I do understand about the sizing problem. I know of other forums, where members cant see larger than 1000 pixels wide, without scrolling.

My browser is set to 100% view. Any smaller and sometimes the text gets very difficult to read.

On a phone images are displayed differently and will likely be resized to fit the screen, whatever.

Can see the full width on my desktop and laptop (both 3840 x 2160 displays) but have to scroll very slightly to see the full height - or reduce the browser to 80%

Caz - if you can see it you can take it no matter what restrictions the website tries to put in place - the only things you can do is either watermark or never publish good quality - but both rather defeat the object of a photographic forum

You're absolutely right but if I can deter them in any way, I will!
