  • Some birds from the Philippines

I'm not really a bird photographer but I was with my family in the Philippines for a couple of weeks earlier in the month and sometimes the birds simply beg to be photographed

So here are a few I recorded:

This is an olive-backed sunbird attracted to the flowers on the 6th floor of my aunt's apartment block where she has her garden, including a large collection of orchids. It's in the middle of the city.

Also in my aunt's penthouse city garden, a pair of Yellow-vented bulbuls.

Finally, a blue-tailed bee-eater, photographed darting up and down the river at the Villa Escudero plantation/resort outside Manila we visited for the day (about a 60% crop). Here's a more fitting crop:

The bee-eater was shot using an elderly 14-150 m.Zuiko!

    So envious!

Never seen these birds before. They are beautiful.

You did well, Ian. Liked seeing these.

      Thanks Garry - here's another:

I was particularly fortunate with the bee-eaters as I didn't have the right lens with me; I only had a 28-300 (FF equivalent superzoom) but the birds were swooping close enough - though they were going quit fast! I left my m.Zuiko 40-150 f/2.8 Pro (80-300 equivalent) at my aunt's apartment: a much better handling, much brighter and much sharper lens! I simply didn't expect to see the birds at what is really a tourist resort.

Fabulous colours. My first thought was how similar in shape to our Kingfisher.
