Thank you Garry. It is interesting that images of this quality from the Nikon P900 aren't guaranteed but at least I can get them with a bit of effort, whereas the Canon/Sigma setup is more consistent but has never produced this detail on the same subjects.

Are you finding yourself using the Nikon P900 more than your Canon ?

Yes I am using the Nikon more but this won't be the norm as better weather comes. The Canon outfit can do a whole lot more, including BIF, than the Nikon, so come the big birding trips the Nikon will be there but in the bag most of the time - only brought out for flowers and insects etc.
