    These insect pictures are great.
Are you using the newer Sigma 105 with OS or the older one with no OS?
    Tripod or hand held?
    Mirror lock & remote release?

Unfortunately, Some of the Exif has been removed. So I am unable to give you the full info, Rab.

But the lens is the older non OS 105mm Sigma. I usually use this lens with a X1.4 teleconverter, and sometimes Tubes.

I also use a very cheap ring flash, which is invaluable for insects.

My macro shots are a mix of hand held, Mono, and tri-pod.

Really depends on how quickly things move. If the insect looks settled. I set a tri-pod up.
If the insect is constantly on the move. Hand held.

But I get more keepers with the tri-pod.

I can never get this close! That said - it's just so close to being in perfect focus but the leaf is sharp and the fly isn't quite. Inspiring, nonetheless!

Agreed! Not perfect focus. Probably due to having to manual focussing.

          I will do better
