  • Lake Cave

The coastal area of Western Australia near Margaret River (South of Perth) is riddled with some very large caves. One of the more interesting sights in Lake Cave was what is called a Suspended Table

    This is formed as follows:
A stalactite and stalagmite meet to form a column
The cave floods to a level slightly below the base of the column
Over hundreds of years the water slowly dissolves the limestone below the surface
The water recedes leaving what was the former floor as the Suspended table hanging from its column

They light it up in colour too

    Stunning !
The stalactites and stalagmites and columns are impressive enough.

The addition of coloured illuminations, creates a fantastic effect.

I see the colour shot was taken at Tv(Shutter Speed) 1/15 and 6400ISO

    Hand held ?

      Thanks Garry
Both shots were hand held but probably steadied by holding the box against a handy wall. The first at 1/20th and iso3200 because I was closer and could use f2.8 on 17mm. For the colour shot we were further away and had to use zoom to frame it better. That cut me down to f4.0 hence the higher iso needed.
Both were in AV mode with -ve exposure compensation
