  • Exploring the derelict Millennium Mills with Canon's new EOS-M10

On Thursday I had a great day courtesy of Canon UK exploring the derelict Millennium Mills in London's Docklands. The site is being prepared for redevelopment and I understand the shell or, at least, the facade of the building will be retained while new commercial and dwelling units will be built in. You can see all the pictures have posted in the gallery and here is a selection:

    Thanks for viewing! Comments welcome.

So that's where the Robin went...

I have always appreciated this style of "urbex" imagery and somewhat envious of those that gained access to it.

The atmospheric interpretation is very good. Hardly any wonder that film makers of Zombie, post apocalyptic genre, love places like this.

I follow a few urbex groups on FlickR. It's alway nice to see these unusual places.
I've photographed the Millennium Mills from outside but never had the courage to do what the urbex people do and "break in".

      Interesting set of shots.

This is certainly a hot topic at the moment as this BBC News feature shows:

Who are the intrepid urban explorers who put themselves in danger for the sake of a picture?

I've worked at many places around the UK and some in the US, that the Urbex would love to get into.

Before I retired, I worked on Foulness Island.

I had access to the whole site, including all the disused areas.

This will give you some idea of the type of places and things that I got to see.

When I worked for BT I visited quite a few places the Urbex people would have liked, some I can't talk about on here.
I've been down here as have quite a few Urbex groups.

Subterranea Britannica is a society devoted to the study and investigation of man-made (including Nuclear Bunkers) and man-used underground places.

Also the deep level tunnels under London which extend away from it.

You can find some more images from attendees at the mill last week using the hashtag #CanonMillsMeet on Twitter and Facebook.
