  • Wiener Riesenrad

    Hi -

Since our return last month from our tour of the Imperial Cities I have been updating the computer - Windows 10 etc.
I had one particular problem which highlighted itself in that my program 'Casper' I use for automatic backing up the computer had not been doing its weekly backup since June. After sending many reports and other information to Future Systems Solutions at their request they discovered my antivirus was the cause with an update to the program. I can't praise FSS enough for the help and guidance given over several days.

I have been processing some of the pix taken and will add one or two as and when.
The Third Man made a big impact on me when I first saw the film many years ago and I whistle the signature tune often. Anne and I visited the big wheel at night and found the bright lights, the many visitors and other intrusions difficult to take it.
Here is one of the better photographs taken.

The Vienna Donauturm[p], opened in April 1964, is the tallest structure in Austria, at 252 metres, and among the 75 tallest towers in the world. The tower is located near the north bank of the Danube River in the district of Donaustadt. Wikipedia

Incidentally, The Third Man was recently re mastered to 4K to much acclaim.

Anne and I visited one of the very large cemeteries during our brief time in Vienna. We chose a day when the weather decided to become hot and it was!
The visit was well worth going especially when you discovered the section containing artists, sculptors and many well known composers and singers such as Udo Juergens, Franz West, Brahms, Schubert, Beethoven, Hedy Lamarr - the list is endless. A few pix of some of the headstones.

Corner scene when I saw this I thought the artist was giving the finger to the pianist, but the artist joined first.

Donauturm Tower with its revolving restaurant - they serve a great cup of coffee which one I expect needs after jumping off the bungee launching area seen in the pic plus a large brandy too.
Anne wouldn't jump which put me off as well.
