We haven't had one of those for years, not since we had one that just grew and grew and grew longer and longer and longer. I'd forgotten about it until you posted this picci.
I always liked the 'waxy' looking sort of texture of the buds so I used to let them grow, open, then let the petals drop off after the flower opened. Our ever-growing, ever-flowering, long, long,long shoots used to irritate my mother because I'd let the petals drop onto the floor and I used to leave them there to get her going.
It also annoyed her when I used to leave the Xmas decorations up until David's Birthday (February 2nd). It used to crease my father ... he encouraged me y'know.
