  • I never expected ...

I never expected to be able to capture acceptable, detailed bird photos with a bridge camera, especially at focal lengths that are 35mm equivalent 600mm and 930mm. This FZ200 really is something special.

First off a Starling that was perched in the Snowberry hedge.

Next is a Jay that was wondering where his favourite peanut feeder had gone. (We'd been rearranging the feeders).

While it's a good camera, there's a lot of good old fashioned camera skill in getting the shots.

    Very well done

Thanks, Graham. You're making me blush!

I don't like and don't use the EVF so the shots were taken using the LCD. I just can't manage to walk well enough without a stick atm, nor can I easily manage an SLR atm so it's really nice to be able to sit on the garden bench and get handheld shots from all directions.

Finding the small creatures in the LCD and framing the shot before they go away is probably the most difficult part.

No2 is a great picture and result, I normally can't get anywhere near a Jay before they fly.

These are very good images Pol. But as said before it's your skills and experience that make the images the camera only captures them. Glad to see you are still pleased with the new camera.
Regards Ron. Live each day as if it was your last. One day you will be right. Down sized to Nikon s7000 compact camera.

I have hundreds of jay shots but you just topped them all. Brilliant shot and it posed beautifully for you.

p.s. does your fence really lean like that

That particular Jay is becoming more and more like a family pet. it's been coming since it was very young and it likes one particular feeder next to a birdbath. It perches happily looking like an Owl as it 'sits' on the edge of the water and surveys its kingdom.

We'd replaced the birdbath yesterday and removed it's favourite feeding pole as it was falling over. 'Jake the Jay' just sat on that fence and watched the proceedings.

It's our neighbour's fence. It's 8ft tall and it slopes away to the right as the garden is wedge-shaped as we're in the corner of a cul-de-sac. The garden is 55ft wide at the front and 80ft wide at the back - both sides sloping away at an angle from the front corners to the back corners.

The garden also slopes downhill from front to back as we're on a fairly steep hill. Nowt level around here - next door had to have a land-drain installed when they moved in as their back garden was always water-logged.

'Pleased with the camera' is an understatement! We're both thrilled with them! David is always proclaiming - "blimey, this camera is something else" and he's right, it is!

Thank you so much for putting us onto them!
