  • Where is Sarah Brightman?

There's a good chance a visit to London's West End will reward you with some good photo opportunities. Here's a man on a mission:

    Sony Alpha 7, Leica M Elmarit 24mm f/2.8 Asph @f/11. 1/13th sec, processed in Lightroom 5.3.

I'm on my larger lappy now so I'm able to see this picci better.

Definitely another good and worthy shot from that camera/lens combination, good colours and definition again, though the exposure here isn't quite as good as the Piccadilly Circus shot ... just a tad overexposed in the sky but I suppose that may have been due to the slower shutter speed?

I must say the colours in BOTH pics are superb ... so very true, excellent.

The exposure is mainly for the shadows here - it's a relatively dim scene and the exposure was only 1/13th second (ISO 200, f/11).

Oh, I don't know. Lately I've been walking around with a board asking Kelly Brook to contact me. No luck so far, but I guess it's just a matter of time.

I hate to be the one to tell you this but you've got the 3rd and 4th numbers of your telephone number wrong on your board. That was bad enough but you were also holding the board upside down.

Hard luck if she already tried to phone you already and gave up because it was the wrong number.

That makes sense and the critical part of the image is well exposed anyway.

Sorry to keep repeating myself but the colours in this and the Picadilly image are so very, very good. Everything about the images is so 'true to life' - if you know what I mean.

Here is the unadjusted camera JPEG:

Not quite as dramatic a change as the Piccadilly Circus 'neons' image

I see what you mean, having looked at both unadjusted images. Lovely contrasts and sharpness in the original of this one.

Excellent processing of BOTH images for two very good final results though. I love them!

Yeah, you looked cold but handsome as ever. Sorry I couldn't stop to say hello because I was on 'escort duty' and we were being pursued by a car load of peeps with big lenses.

                          Ian,
Going back to your A7/M9 project and wide angle lenses, have you tried either cornerfix of Lightroom Flat Field? I know that they are just fixes for a fundamental problem but with my Voigtlander 15mm the result is not far short of magical on both cameras.

I'm sure these will work well. I'm more interested in the fundamentals rather than fixes. First of all if there is a loss of definition you can't compensate for that. If you brighten the corners to fix vignetting that will increase noise and eventually affect contrast. It may be fine for low ISOs but it will become noticeable at higher ISOs. Basically, with this particular lens, you need to use it stopped down - f/11 or f/16 on an Alpha 7, and that could mean you need to up the ISO or use a tripod. Even then you may still need to run utilities to clean things up.

The Elmarit works remarkably well on the Leica M9/M-E although you still need to stop down but not quite as much - f/5.6 is already quite good. And there is no need for any post-processing to clean things up.
