  • First week with EM1 - New York

    Dear All,

I'm a long term Canon user. Currently have the 5d mark 3 but when the OMD EM5 came out I was very tempted. I had previously owned the fuji X100 for a while but it just wasn't for me. I loved the EM5 and it quickly became my go to camera for my hobby. When the EM1 was released I couldn't resist the better viewfinder etc and decided to take it with me on a family holiday to New York. The camera arrived a day before we flew from the UK. I half read the manual on the plane and then headed out into the city.

About to head out for a week on business so will keep my review very very brief. LOVE the camera! Given that photography is a hobby for me I am, for the first time since I bought my first DSLR, a canon 300D, thinking of selling all my canon gear and using the olympus em1 for everything! Anyway, here's the link to my set. It is the best place to view them.

The safest and most inclusive global community of photography enthusiasts. The best place for inspiration, connection, and sharing!

I used the olympus 12-50 and the 70mm.

    Hope you enjoy

    best Regards

    Josh

Sold all my DSLR stuff and went completely MFT a few months ago.

A very nice set, the first is the stand out for me.

Very nice, Josh and once again (remember Venice) you have demonstrated the value of night time shots. Spookily (remember venice! ) I was in NY earlier this year too and did take quite a few night time shots at street level but I had to make do with afternoon grey skies and rain during my time on the 80th floor of the Empire State building.

There was a time when Olympus camera bodies were just a bit too 'odd' but the latest cameras are really excellent and the E-M1 is simply brilliant in my view.

              Thanks all. Appreciate the comments.

I love photography and see no need to stop when the sun goes down. 😃

The em1 has been a revelation. The view finder is so good you forget that it is an EVF. That is really important to me. The imaging handling at high ISO is also superb, not as good as the canon mark 3 but for what I do good enough.

Loving the 70mm prime lens from Olympus as well. So sharp.

              Best regards

              Josh.

I posted a few from my trip to New York (night shots!) here:

Use this board to post your photos and to tell us about the scene you set out to capture. Don't forget that the best place for *critique* in order see how your photography might be improved, technically, remains the Image Insight Photo critique board.

Not sure if you saw them Josh?

                  Hi

no I hadn't seen that thread Ian. New job so a lot less time on the internet.

Love your pictures but the stand out one for me is the last one. SO MUCH to see and engage with. Captures the bustle of the city so well.

Love New York and I would happily live there.
