  • Southern Chilean LAndscapes

I am traveling in the Aysen Region in South Chile. The shape of the landscape is marked by several glaciations that formed a lot of lakes, channels and fjords. The region still has icefields including the Northern Patagonian Ice Field and the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, the world's largest after those in Antarctica and Greenland. Laguna San Rafael National Park, reachable only by boat or plane, is one of its most popular tourist destinations. Until the construction of Route 7 (the Carretera Austral, or Southern Highway) in the 1980s, the only overland routes from north to south through the region were extremely primitive tracks. In lake Carreras there is a unique erosion formation on the lakeshore called the Marble Cathedral. I include some pictures.

Stunning, I particularly liked the first 2.
Have to confess that the last one is baffling me, I haven't got a clue as to what I am seeing here.

Wonderful shapes, colours and textures, especially in the first two.

I also love the line of 'miniature trees' in the 'green water'. I also love the way you processed the refelections in tvhe last one.

Your excellent eye for the unusual and the abstract always fascinates and is always so inspirational.

This is the sky reflected in the surface lake and the reeds in it.

A very nice set. Love the row of sun lit trees and the first two.

              Again wonderful images Horatio.

The first two "Light my Fire" - wonderful abstracts.

Like Pol, the little trees attract me and also like Pops, I didn't understand the last one. I'm not even sure that I do now.

              Thanks for sharing.

                An impressive set of images.
I really like the form an textures in the first two, the scale of the landscapes, especially three and seven. Then the lighting of eight really catches my attention and the last image is
fantastic, almost like characters of an ancient language
                Thanks for sharing these .

                  .
Look closely at each shape and you'll detect they're reflections - eg half way across each curve (grass) or 'triangle' you can see the point where it makes contact with the water. The 'tones' in the water are a reflection of the grey sky above the scene.

Horacio has other similar images in his gallery and he was once kind enough to explain how he processed the image to get the effect.

                    Re: Southern Chilean LAndscapes

As Pol said, the composition included a simetric reflection of the reeds in the waterlake surface to create the meaning of some written language, simil chinese paintings. As it ws totally calm, the sky is also reflected at the backround of the lake. Very little manipulation in CS6 (contrast and curve for highlights and blacks).

Thanks for the explanation Pol and Horatio.

I've looked very hard and still can't fathom it. I think I need a video of it being processed and then I would know how you did it Horatio.

Once again you excel, Horacio. The first two (and particularly No 1) are excellent abstracts and No 8, the row of sunlit trees, is my absolute favourite. But then again, so is the last one. The geometric shape produced by reflections of the reeds are divine. I think a great title for this shot would be "Pythagoras."
