We often hear (noisy squawky things!) and see herons flying past overhead as we are close to the Grand Union Canal and river Gade here in the Hemel Hempstead.
But I was quite surprised to see that this one had decided to stop on my neighbour's garage roof
It was taken through a less than clean kitchen window and a little against the light which didn't help! This is an un-cropped view.
I also didn't have time to check the camera settings so I didn't have RAW mode set - this is a crop from a camera JPEG and it was shot at full aperture using ISO 500 and processed in Lightroom 5.2 (Olympus OM-D E-M5, m.Zuiko 14-150mm f/4-5.6 @150mm (300mm equivalent) f/5.6, 1/500th). It cleaned up quite nicely
