  • Some shots from the new Olympus OM-D E-M1

I have been busy this week with the launch of the Olympus OM-D E-M1, which is why I was in Japan last month to be briefed at Olympus HQ. I have uploaded a selection of E-M1 shots to my FTU gallery here:

    Here are some of them:

Note - all from in-camera JPEGs (Super Fine), Noise Filter set to OFF. No noise reduction in Lightroom on any shots.

    35-100 f/2.0 - first in a 23 frame continuous sequence (C-AF)

    35-100 f/2.0 - last in a 23 frame continuous sequence (C-AF) and cropped to just 3 megapixels.

45mm f/1.8, artificial light, auto white balance, @f/1.8, 1/30th sec, slight crop.

Female pheasant at Rutland Water - 300mm f/2.8 w/EC-14 converter (cropped)

    300mm f/2.8 w/EC-14 converter (uncropped)

300mm f/2.8 - taken by Andy Elliot and processed and cropped by me.

    m.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro - 1/2 second exposure hand-held! ISO 1600

    Comments very welcome!

The close up of the pheasant is awesome and the kitten is a close second to it.

We were in a hide at Rutland Water and the pheasant was only about 20 yards away. With the 300 and 1.4x converter the lens was 425mm or about 640mm equivalent on your APS-C Canon

And that's no kitten any more - Bella (and Cindy) will be 2 in November!

Quite impressed with the horse shots, a good example of how CAF should work. Not sure the camera has quite got it with the Heron but the E-M5 probably wouldn't have got it at all.

Hi David, yes there is probably a back focus issue with the heron shot. Hopefully the af fine adjust would be able to deal with that.
